January 30

Today in class, science 8 students finished up their Fossil lab. They will be due on Monday, and will be working on some more relative dating activities next week.

Integrated science students turned in their Density Lab 1 and graded their Density practice problems worksheet 2015. To finish up the period, students began to work on the  , which will be finished Monday.

January 29

Today in class, students in science 8 began work on the Fossil lab. They were able to begin making a cast and mold fossil, as well as learning about how index fossils are used to correlate the ages of rock layers in different areas, as far away as continents.

Integrated science finished up the Density Lab 1 today. Students will also have some practice problems on density today and over the weekend.

January 28

Today, science 8 students finished their notes on  Fossils  and learned how fossils are used to help take rock layers from multiple locations and relative date them. Their homework tonight (if not finished in class) will be to do the Index Fossils and Relative Dating worksheet.

Integrated science finished their physical and chemical property whiteboard presentations today, and then began their first investigation into a physical property. Today and tomorrow we’ll be working on learning about density, and today’s lab gave them practice with measuring the density of a regularly shaped object. We will finish the Density Lab 1 14 copy.

HOMEWORK: Science8=choose a small object for tomorrow to see if we can fossilize it. Examples may be a sea shell, animal cracker, penny, paper clip, plastic toy soldier, ect.
Integrated: None

January 27

Today in class, science 8 students graded their Depositional Environments Lab and then began taking notes on Fossils . Students will continue work on fossils this week and learn what they tell us about the history of earth.

Integrated science students were given the challenge of creating 2 whiteboards to present information on physical properties and chemical properties. Presentations began, but the winners are still to be determined! We will be investigating physical and chemical properties for the next two weeks.

HOMEWORK: Science 8= find an object you’d like to “fossilize” for Thursday. Test over relative and absolute dating, depositional environments, and fossils (historical geology) Next Monday or Tuesday.
Integrated: None

January 22

Science 8 students began class today by receiving some papers back, and checking their scores for the Relative and Absolute Dating Quiz and then they worked on their Depositional Environments Lab. Students took the rest of the period to finish their labs. They can find info about the types of depositional environments here.

Integrated science finished up their electricity quizzes, and then began some test prep today with their practice tests for Integrated Science. If you want to practice at home, you need to select a high school grade level and then select the Physical Science PBA or EOY. There will be a test on March 6 for the PBA, and then the EOY will be in May.

HOMEWORK: Science 8= Finish test questions from the practice test, and record answers; finish any of your Depositional Environments Lab.
Integrated=Finish test questions from the practice test, and record answers

January 21

Today in class, students in science 8 took some practice tests for the AIR tests that they’ll be taking for the state. Students will be reviewing their results on Friday.

Integrated science went over the  Finding V I and R worksheet for a review before the quiz today over electric circuits. Students had a short review and then took some time to take the electricity and circuits quiz.

HOMEWORK: Science 8=finish the questions from the practice tests and write your responses down.

January 20

Today in class, science 8 students began the day by finishing up the Depositional environments, Fossils and history notes from Thursday, and then began a lab over depositional environments (Depositional Environments Lab). For homework, students will need to do a short internet search on the definitions for the different depositional environments.

Integrated science shared their data from the last week’s activity, and we saw that in parallel circuits, the total current is equal to the current in each branch. The voltage was the same in each branch, and was the same as our power source. In series circuits, the current was always the same, but voltage across each resistor added up to the total voltage. Students will have the Finding V I and R worksheet for homework and will need to be able to answer questions such as what happens to voltage and/or current if a bulb is removed from a location. Quiz tomorrow!

HOMEWORK: Science 8= Depositional Environments Lab
Integrated: Finding V I and R worksheet . Quiz over electric circuits tomorrow.  Be able to answer questions for our quiz tomorrow like “What happens to the current/voltage when a bulb is added/removed in different locations?”

January 15

Students in science 8 today took their Relative and Absolute Dating quiz, and then began taking notes on Depositional environments, Fossils and history of the earth.

Integrated students today learned how to connect an ammeter and a voltmeter to a circuit so that they could measure current and voltage in a circuit. We did this to learn more about how circuits work, and we mapped out the voltage drops and current in different examples of circuits.

HOMEWORK: Science 8= take notes on Depositional environments, Fossils and history
Integrated: Study for electric circuits quiz Tuesday.
