Today in science 8, students continued work on a research project on genetic disorders. Students will turn in projects Wednesday, and begin presenting that day as well. Integrated students turned in their Secrets of the Sun and Life and Death of a Star worksheets. We also began taking notes on the HR diagram and began a worksheet covering the relationship between luminosity and temperature.

Today in science 8, students finished up their debates (periods 1 and 5) and also began work on a research project on genetic disorders. Students will turn in projects Wednesday, and begin presenting that day as well. Integrated students today presented their Star Life Cycle graphic organizers, and we voted on the “Best” ones, while also making critiques. Afterwards, we watched the Secrets of the Sun and did a short worksheet over it. Monday, we’ll be learning about HR diagrams!

Today in class, students in science 8 presented their information on their debate topics and were assigned a side for Wednesday. We also had peer evaluations today.

Integrated science finished the video “How the Universe works: the Big Bang“. We then began taking notes on the life cycle of stars, as well as learning about gravity and the way that space-time is bent by matter.

Science 8 students today presented their presentations in a dry run of their de-extinction or designer baby debate slides. They will need to make sure they’re elaborating and also including slides that help show their points with pictures. On Monday, students will present their presentations in class.

Integrated science students today moved from nuclear chemistry into the formation of the universe. They watched a video and took notes on several items, including the stages of the universe’s formation, from “How the Universe works: the Big Bang“.

Today in science 8, students spent some time reviewing the process of de-extinction or designer babies from their articles that they read last night. Students were then assigned a specific topic to research and create presentation slides for on their topics. There will be a dry run of the presentation on Friday, and a final presentation on Monday. A debate will follow next week.

Integrated science learned about radioactive decay and half-lives with the  Half-life of a Penny activity .

May 5

Today in science 8, students began reading over some articles and papers on their life science debate topics. We will be asking students to create a presentation covering the major portions of their topic, and later this week we’ll present them and begin preparing for the debate.

Integrated science did the Half-life of a Penny activity to learn how radioactive decay works. We also covered the answers from last night’s Nuclear Decay worksheet .

ermine-rabbit-chase-tundra-animalsState Testing is DONE! Science 8 students today used the shortened period to hear some background information on some debate topics (GMOs, de-extinction, and designer babies). Then classes voted on which topic to work on, and tomorrow, we’ll receive some reading information on the topics.

Integrated science reviewed the types of nuclear decay from last week, and then did some practice problems before working on the  Nuclear Decay worksheet.

Today is May! HOORAY! We spent time today reviewing for the AIR test on Monday in science 8 classes, as well as Integrated science. Students will be taking the AIR science 8 or Integrated science test on Monday, and then we will be continuing with some of our normal curriculum.

HOMEWORK: Enjoy the beautiful weather, review a bit of your old science notes, get some rest, eat a good breakfast on Monday.
